Bagad Lann Bihoue

Bagad Lann Bihoue

On Tuesday 24 May, the College were fortunate to have the French Navy band Bagad Lann Bihoue at our School.

It's the Bagad of the French Navy and the only remaining French and professional military Bagad. The band represents the French Navy and France in multiple national and international events. It has performed regularly in front of Heads of State. It is a source of cultural influence in Brittany as in the rest of France.

The band consists of Bagpipes Bombardes and percussion and those who were fortunate to be in attendance were treated to a performance of a world class standard. These boys were very good and some of our boys were lucky enough to play with them without any prior rehearsal which goes to show the high standard of Scotch College Pipe Band

Richard Hamilton, Father of Scotch College's Pipe Band Drum Instructor, Roy Hamiliton, was here for the Concert and it brought back many memories for him as he played in Brittany in 1952 with his Pipe Band from Scotland. In 1957 he returned to Brittany to play with a Bagad band for a couple of weeks and I am sure they were glad to have him as the band he was playing with in Scotland were World Champions in 1955. (Then later in 1965 66 67 68 and 69)

He brought in old photos and a 45 rpm record to show them of the Bagad band he played with in Brittany and it was fantastic to see so many of them take an interest in memorabilia.
